    Iris Retractors

Iris retractors (also known as iris hooks) are used when a patient has cataracts, contracted pupils, or inoperative floppy iris syndrome. Iris hooks are considered the optimal temporary implants for such conditions. These highly effective iris hooks from FCI Ophthalmics can be used when pharmacological dilation is unsuccessful. By helping to maintain a safe pupillary diameter, iris hooks are, in many cases, invaluable devices for cataract surgery.

    Morcher Pupil Dilator

Important among the devices provided by FCI for cataract surgery is the Morcher pupil dilator. The Morcher pupil dilator type 5S is a semi-circular elastic PMMA ring for the expansion of the pupil during photoemulsification. For patients who have cataracts and contracted pupils or floppy iris syndrome, this is the optimal temporary implant.

    • Sterile package for single use only
    • Pupil dilator may be inserted manually or with the Geuder injector
      (G-32970)
    • Important note: Pupil dilator should be implanted only with viscoelastic for
      protection of the corneal endothelium
    • Overall Length: 7.50 mm
    • Pupil size: 5.0–6.0 mm
    • Thickness: 0.15–0.60/0.90 mm

    Henderson Capsular Tension Rings (HCTR)

The Henderson Ring is a special design of the popular capsular tension rings (CTR) manufactured by Morcher GmbH of Stuttgart, Germany.   The Henderson Ring is an open C-shaped loop made of a single piece of Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA).  Employing a Morcher propriety process (CFM) in the manufacture, the PMMA has enhanced flexibility and resistance to breakage. The ring performs the same basic function of standard CTRs by stabilizing the capsular bag before, during and after cataract surgery.

The unique design of the Henderson Ring features eight equally spaced indentations spanning the circumference of the ring creating a sinusoidal shape.  The main advantage of this ring is that the new indentations allow for easier nuclear and cortical material removal while still maintaining the desired stretch of the capsular bag.  Once the residual material has been removed from under the indentations the HCTR can be rotated to change positions of the indentations to allow further removal of lense material that was compressed by the indented portion of the HCTR. .

    Indications

    • Missing or damaged zonules
    • Lens subluxation
    • Pseudoexfoliation
    • Myopia
    • Zonulolysis
    • Soft IOL
    • Marfan’s Syndrome

    Advantages

    • Circular expansion of capsular bags
    • Stablilizes conditions during surgery
    • Facilitates cortical removal
    • Improves IOL centration
    • Reduces risk of capsular fibrosis
    • Resists capsular shrinkage

    Ahmed Capsular Tension Segment (CTS)

The Ahmed CTS is a modified design of the Cionni capsular tension rings manufactured by Morcher GmbH of Stuttgart, Germany.   The CTS is a partial ring of clear PMMA covering approximately one quadrant with a hole for temporary or permanent fixation. One or more segments may be used as necessary to support the areas of the capsule that have damaged or insufficient zonular support.. Because it is only a segment, placement is easy and atraumatic, even before phaco. There are no sharp points or edges to tear the capsulorhexis and removal is easy. According to Dr. Ahmed, stripping cortex out from under and around the CTS is easy. The CTS can be used even when anterior or posterior capsular tears are present.

    Indications

Capsular Tension Segments are used to stabilize and recenter the capsular bag in the following cases:

    • Significant zonular weakness
    • Lens subluxation
    • Pseudoexfoliation
    • Myopia
    • Zonulolysis
    • Soft IOL
    • Marfan’s Syndrome

    Advantages

    • May be used intraoperatively, secured by an iris hook
    • May be fixated to the sclera for permanent support
    • Stabilizes conditions during cataract surgery
    • Improves IOL centration
    • Reduces risk of capsular fibrosis
    • Resists capsular shrinkage

Kitaro Cataract Drylab & Kitaro Cataract Wetlab

The KITARO© WetLab and DryLab kits are created with the learning surgeon in mind. With both wet and dry lab kits, the beginner can practice techniques repeatedly without the added complication of long preparation times and costly live tissue samples. These tools simulate the stages of cataract surgery using both a wet lab and dry lab environment to allow new surgeons the ability to train repeatedly on basic surgical techniques.

    Kitaro Complex Case Labs

For the advanced surgeon, Kitaro has developed two kits for complex surgical procedures. Like the Dry & Wet Lab kits, the Complex Case Labs allow for repeated practice of techniques and procedures with realistic but synthetic materials.
The Kitaro Complex Case Lab 1 allows a surgeon to practice such complex cases as small pupil management, weak or ruptured zonules, and intraocular lens transcleral fixation. The surgeon may also elect practice phakic IOL insertion with an optional add-on part.
The Kitaro Complex Case Lab 2 allows a surgeon to practice conventional extracapsular extraction (ECCE) and posterior capsule rupture management.
